The Ottawa Fury U16 Girls team participated in the annual Walk for Kids Help Phone this past Sunday (May 2).  The Walk, which took place in Vincent Massey Park, was done on a 5 km course and featured entertainment and refreshments.  Through pre-pledges and donations the Fury raised $1,146 for the event, almost doubling their initial goal of $600. 

The Fury U16 Girls were the first Fury team in action on Day 1 with a 9:00am kick-off against Canadian counterparts Coastal WFC.

With the USL Super Y-League Finals just over a month away, the Fury are preparing to send five teams to vie for a national championship.  The U16 Girls were one of two Fury sides to win their respective divisions in 2009, and boasted the best record of any Fury SYL team with an end of the season mark of 10-1-1.

The Fury U16 Girls compiled a superb 10-1-1 record in 2009 SYL play - good for first place in the New England Division and a trip to the SYL Finals this November.

A huge congratulations go out to striker Lauren Hughes (pictured right) who was named both the 2009 U16 Girls MVP as well as 2009 Fury Top Club Goalscorer.

  An early sunny Sunday morning game saw the U16 girls facing the visiting MPS Lady Crusaders from Cape Cod at Keith Harris stadium.
 Hoping to continue the early  season winning ways the Fury looked to be the better team early on as the pressure on Cape Cod began. Unfortunately 10 minutes in that changed as Cape Cod scored on a slow and predictable attack from the right side that neither the midfield nor fullbacks were in position to deal with.
 Fifteen minutes in though the Fury scored to draw even and then go to lead the game at the 30 minute mark. The half ended 2-1 for the Fury who made some great looking runs at the Cape Cod goal but also allowed a weaker team to be dangerous in our end.
 The second half saw the Crusaders score first to tie the game due to a melt down defensively that saw the opposition striker run 50 yards to goal without much resistance. 2-2 50 minutes into the game in which the Fury was owning the ball 80%. 
 The Fury scored to lead 3-2 at the 55 minute mark and added another to finish the game 4-2.
 A big thank you to Amy Savage who came over from the U17 squad to help us out. Amy netted two goals and was instrumental in attacks on Cape Cod's net. Lauren Hughes continued to light it up with another two goals of her own.
